Aliyyah Adio

Aliyyah Adio

My name is Aliyyah Adio, I am from Oakland, California, and currently live in Atlanta, Georgia. In my family, I am the first generation Nigerian-American. Both of my parents are from Lagos, Nigeria. My father, who is also a pilot and flight instructor, instilled in me a love for aviation. For almost two decades, he ran a flight school in Oakland and Hayward California which has helped a lot of minorities start their careers in aviation. His contribution to aviation has encouraged me to carry on his legacy. Although I was too young to fly with him, I was fortunate enough to travel across the world with my family and experience the sensation of taking off and landing. It gives me great pleasure to be able to appreciate the beauty of the skies.

I began exploring aviation by acquiring my workshop assembly certificate at Zenith Aircraft Company where I learned how to build an airplane with students from International College of Aeronautics. My interest in aviation sparked even more when one of the instructors there took me on my first discovery flight. I enjoyed being behind the controls of the aircraft and I knew instantly that becoming a pilot is a career I want to achieve. After the program, I worked in line service as a commercial aircraft fueler for Delta Airlines for a year. Currently, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management at Middle Georgia State University. I also have a background in performing arts. My goal is to become a flight instructor and an airline pilot. Thanks to the RedTail Flight Academy, I will be able to obtain my pilot certifications, putting me one step closer to my ambitions. I am sincerely grateful and honored to be a part of the RedTail Scholarship Program. I'm looking forward to continuing the Tuskegee Airmen's legacy.

Jasmine Frederick

Jasmine Frederick

My name is Jasmine Frederick, and I am from Homestead, Florida. Ever since I was young, I’ve been involved in some sort of aviation. My uncle was an FAA flight inspector for over 35 years and regaled us with dozens of stories from his adventures in the cockpit. Our family friend, Eldridge Williams, was one of the Tuskegee Airmen and we were made well aware of the struggles and barriers he and other minorities had to overcome to try to get the opportunity to fly. My mother was hired as a flight attendant back in 1997, which allowed us to frequent the friendly skies since we were babies, unlocking the doors to travel experiences and intercultural exposures which would have been otherwise impossible. My father was always building and flying some sort of model aircraft. Whether glider or helicopter, those RC models provided hours of smiles and laughter sprinkled with lessons on aerodynamics and flight principles.

We spent countless afternoons at our local airports in Miami and Homestead Florida, just watching the approaches and landings for hours on end. We met many students and instructors, watching them come and go over the years, always hoping, planning, and saving to get the opportunity to be the one in the cockpit but the resources were never there to actually engage the whole training process in earnest. I've been taught to look for opportunities to reach out, and help the next person up too. I’m excited for the day where i’m in a position to pay it forward and help those around me up just as I’m being helped up now. All in all, it feels like GOD is laying a hand on my life and opening a door to my destiny. I feel nothing but gratitude.

Anthony Gilbert

Anthony Gilbert

My name is  Anthony Gilbert was born in Orlando, Florida, and raised on St. Croix, U.S Virgin Islands. His interest in aviation started at the age of five while traveling and seeing planes take off and land at various airports. As a kid, and still today, I enjoys the views that one gets to see when at 35,000+ feet above ground level.

I joined the Virgin Islands Chapter Tuskegee Airmen Youth Aviation Club (VICTAI) in 2016 in hopes of one day becoming a commercial airline pilot where I served as the Sergeant At Arms from 2017-2020. Currently, I serve as the president of the youth aviation club on St. Croix. Passionate about flying, I started my pilot career with Yellow Breast Aviation Flight School on the island of St. Croix and recently attended the Luke Weathers Solo Flight Academy in Olive Branch, Mississippi, where he completed his first solo. I hopes to one day be able to mentor, encourage and inspire minorities children interested in aviation.

jarious Gordon

Jarious Gordon

My name is Jarious Gordon.  I am 21 years old from Orlando, Florida and the youngest of 2 siblings.   My love for flying first started in 2015 when my mom introduced to me Captain Arnold Tolbert’s Aviation Career Education at Florida Memorial University.  I was introduced to the many aviation jobs and my passion for aviation vastly grew. In my junior year of high school, I enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard.  I have been in for 4 and a half years now and have been on multiple relief missions for hurricanes that have affected Florida.

In June 2020, I completed my check ride and received my Private Pilot’s License under Mike McKenzie’s Vision of Flight program. I was among the first students to complete this program. Then, in December 2020, I graduated from Valencia Community college with my Associates in Arts degree. Shortly after, my unit was deployed on a COVID-19 relief mission to assist at COVID-19 testing sites and transport vaccines. In my spare time, I love to spend time with family and friends, collecting sneakers, working out, and I love to go on adventures.

Traye Jackson

Traye Jackson

My name is Traye Jackson I was born in Montclair, New Jersey on December 04, 2000. Early in life, I moved to Denver, Colorado, where I was raised and had a burning passion for aviation. I always loved reading about aircraft and going to any aircraft museums where the more I knew about aviation, the more I wanted to learn. I joined my local Tuskegee Airmen chapter, the Hubert L. “Hooks” Jones chapter or also known as the Mile High Flight Program, when I was 13. In this program there were two phases. In phase one, the program taught us about the different pathways and educational opportunities in aviation. They took us on trips to various institutions like the United Airlines training center, United Launch Alliance, and the Air Force Academy.

Phase two, was a scholarship awarded to 1-3 students each summer to receive flight training to our solo flight. At the time I was only 13, so I set my goal to be the best I can be in the program and when I turned 16, I was awarded the phase two scholarship. This was a dream come true for me and locked me into the field of aviation. I was in high school at the time and decided I wanted to learn about the other side of aviation. In my engineering program at school, they offered engineering internships and there was only one aviation related internship that was highly sought after. I applied and interviewed for the structural engineering internship at United Airlines and fortunately received the internship where I gained a plethora of experience. I was able to see how airlines solve problems for damage to their fleet and how they repaired it.

The experiences I’ve had with flying aircraft and experiencing the technical side of them has grown my passion aviation tremendously. I am now currently enrolled at Metropolitan State University of Denver to receive my Bachelor of Science in Aviation and Aerospace Science.
